The Independent Beer Awards, affectionately known as ‘The Indies’, recognises the quality and excellence of Australia’s independent beer scene. This September, a panel of hard working judges rated over a thousand entries (we’ll volunteer as tribute!) to award the best beers in the country.
Taking out top honour was a birthday brew from Dainton Brewery, with a name as big as the championship beer – the Triple Dry Hopped Double Red Eye Rye. 3 Ravens, Melbourne’s oldest independent brewery, was awarded the Champion Small/Medium Brewery trophy. While Fixation Brewery, with an Incubator tasting room in Collingwood, claimed Champion Large Brewery.
Out in Eastern Victoria, Bright Brewery’s Razor Witbier won best European Style Ale. And Ballarat’s new brewery, Dollar Bill, claimed the unique ‘mixed culture’ prize. While closer to home, Stomping Ground’s Bunker porter won in the best stout category. Congratulations to all the winners and cheers to delicious beer!
